Assam Flood 2017: From bad to worse, over four lakh people affected

GUWAHATI, July 10: Assam flood situation is just going from bad to worse, over four lakh people have been affected so far in the state.

Various roads have been closed to minimise damage to civilians and public property.

Roads are blocked in between Sagalee and Doimukh, Doimukh-Hoj-Potin, Kimin and Potin within five kilometers and also in other location.

Borapani Bridge, which is a lone life line of twin city and a ‘chicken neck’ for all entry and exist points of the vehicles, is in danger zone.

A total of 15 districts affected including Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Golaghat, Cachar, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Karimganj, Sonitpur, Majuli, Barpeta, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Marogain, Chirang and the worst affected districts were Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Golaghat.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured full support to the state.

“The Prime Minister has assured us full support and we are thankful to him for his great gesture and kind support,” Sonowal briefed newsmen

The situation has made the State Government to open 128 relief camps with the Chief Minister taking stock of the situation.
