GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has called upon a high level law and order review meeting on Wednesday evening keeping in view of the coming assembly elections in the state. The meeting is supposed to be attended by top officials of law and order including Assam DGP Mukesh Sahai, Commissioner of Police Mukesh Agarwal and IGP S.N Singh.
Notably, the government has sought 600 companies of armed forces from Centre for assembly polls. This was disclosed by Assam Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) SN Singh adding that the Election Commission will take a final call on whether to deploy central forces or state police or both during the polls at the earliest.
Mr Singh said, about 24 thousand 800 polling booths will be set up across the state to conduct polls. He said operation to seize illegal arms have been intensified by security forces ahead of the elections. Polling will be held this year in Assam for 126 assembly seats.
