Arunachal Pradesh: 20-yr-old girl commits suicide in Itanagar; leaves behind 11 pages suicide note!

Itanagar, 28 Nov : A 20-year-old woman, identified as Bomyir Riba, allegedly committed suicide at her rented apartment in Abotani Colony on November 25 last.

A BA 1st year student of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), late Riba was a native of Page village in Basar circle and was currently living in Itanagar with a roommate at Abotani Colony.

The incident occurred when her roommate was away staying at her relative’s house.

Late Riba was found hanging by the ceiling fan’s holder with a duppatta (scarf) around her neck by the rent owner’s son and the police were informed of the incident at around 7pm on November 25.

The father of the deceased has registered a case under section 306 IPC for abetment to suicide against assistant professor of DNGC Eken Romdu, who is reportedly absconding.

Police sources also informed that 11 pages of suicide notes have been recovered from the scene, along with a diary, which showed signs that she was under deep depression.

Blaming no one for her death, the suicide notes also read that she was not pregnant as people assumed and shamed her for, and that she was tired of the false assumptions.

However, she has repeatedly mentioned her family and an unnamed man in her writings. The police also suspect that she was in a relationship with the unnamed man.

Meanwhile, the DNGC Students’ Union also alleged that assistant professor Romdu was the reason behind the suicide, and appealed to the police to give justice to late Riba by punishing the culprit as per law at the earliest.
