In an effort to create public awareness about the need of nature and environment conservation, a 10-member army team embarked upon a 1,000-km bicycle expedition from Pangsau Pass in the India-Myanmar border on Tuesday.
The expedition organised as part of the Assam Rifles 181st raising day celebrations was flagged off by Brigadier DK Singh, commander of the 25 Sector Assam Rifles based at Lekhapani in Tinsukia district in the presence of district officials and locals. The cycling event based on the theme “Cycle to recycle” will pass through several destinations in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya before culminating in Shillong on March 16.
Brigadier Singh informed that the cycling team will visit the schools and colleges on the way and interact with students on various environmental issues. They will also meet the ex-servicemen from the Assam Rifles to find and mitigate their problems.
