AGARTALA: A local court in Gomati district’s Udaipur on Thursday sentenced a woman to rigorous life imprisonment and slapped a fine for Rs 5,000 for killing her husband.
The convicted Rajkumari Jamatia (35) had killed her husband Bikram Jamatia of Lalsiri villager under the Birganj Police Station in Amarpur subdivision on July 4, 2013. According to reports, Bikram, reportedly an alcoholic, had returned home late at night and instead of going to his own hut, had made his way to the cottage of his cousin Kalisa Jamatia. Rajkumari tried to persuade her husband to return, but Bikram was under the influence of alcohol and attempted to beat her up. Having lost patience by this point, Rajkumari hit Bikram on the head with a bamboo club and he died on the spot. Police arrested Rajkumari on the basis of an FIR filed by Kalisa.
In another case, Tripura Police arrested a middle-aged person on rape charged 14 years after a complaint was registered. The accused, identified as Ranjit Debbarma, was arrested on Wednesday from Tankmura village of Bishalgarh in West Tripura. The court sent him to jail.
