Tripura: Miscreants attack BJP rally in Kathalia market

AGARTALA: In a fresh bid to disrupt BJP’s organizational programme two miscreants on a Maruti Van yesterday broke through the police security barrier and tried to run over BJP workers and supporters walking in a procession at Kathalia market under Sonamura subdivision yesterday in the evening.

Two BJP workers and a police Havildar sustained injuries in the attack launched by the miscreants. One miscreant travelling in the Maruti was arrested after a hot chase while the driver managed to run away.

Official sources said that the BJP unit in Kathalia had obtained police permission for a procession to protest the attack on party’s state president Biplab Kumar Deb at Agartala on Saturday night .

As the procession was moving through Kathalia market around 7-00 in the evening a Maruti Van running alongside for sometime broke through police security barrier accompanying the procession and tried to run over BJP workers and supporters in the procession.

In the attack police Havildar Sunil Debbarma and BJP workers Naraqyan Mazumder, Asish Paul, S.Nehara Begum and Ranjit Mazumer sustained minor injuries.

While the Maruti Van tried to escape from the spot, a passenger Ratan Paul jumped out and tried to flee but he was caught up by chasing BJP supporters and handed over to police after a round of beating.

Ratan informed police that the Maruti Van was being driven by one Humayun Mia alias Suman of Sonamura but failed to give reasons for the attack. Enraged by the sudden attack the BJP worekrs laid a siege around the Jatrapur police station demading arrest of the culprit.

The SDPO (Sonamura) Babul Das pacified the irate BJP workers and supporters by promising to arrest Humayun Mia and got the blockade around the police station withdrawn.

The BJP state vice president Subal Bhowmik squarely blamed the CPI (M) for the attack and said that the ruling party was ‘using camouflage by hiring miscreants to disrupt BJP’s organizational programmes in many places.

‘They are still not coming into the open but infiltrating clubs and different areas to instigate attacks on our workers and supporters with the purpose of disrupting our organizational programmes; actually the CPI (M) is terribly scared of the huge wave of anti-incumbency and the response BJP has been getting from the people and, as always, they are indulging in political violence and guerrilla attacks to stop us; but we will resist the nefarious designs of the CPI (M)’ asserted Subal.
