AGARTALA: Tripura jail minister and senior CPI leader Manindra Reang, who suffered a cardiac arrest in Gandacherra on Monday afternoon, had to be airlifted to Agartala.
Reang had gone to Gandacherra in Dhalai district on Monday morning to attend the three-day Hajagiri festival of the Reang tribe. He was first admitted in Gandacherra subdivisional hospital after complaining of chest pain during an official meeting before lunch.
Due to poor infrastructure and absence of specialists in the hospital, Reang was left without medication for more than two hours, his family members complained.
A Pawan Hans chopper, with doctors on board, was requisitioned from Agartala and it ferried Reang to Agartala Government Medical College later in the afternoon.
“A team of specialists is attended on Reang at AGMC. His condition is stable now but he might require surgical intervention,” medical superintendent of AGMC Subrata Baidya said.
Official sources said Reang would be shifted to All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi, on Monday night.
