Swedish pop group ABBA reunites after 30 years

The four members of ABBA performed alongside one another for the first time after more than 30 years in Stockholm. The performance was at an event at the Berns Salonger hotel which marks 50 years since the group’s founding members Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson met for the first time This was a reunion they had pledged would never happen and which fans had long ceased to expect.

Towards the end of the evening, the group’s two female members Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad took to the stage to perform the 1980 hit Me and I. 

According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, which covered the event, Lyngstadon said, “It was absolutely amazing. A lot of emotions. We’ve made this journey throughout our history. Benny and Björn in particular. It’s been very nostalgic.”

ABBA, which shot to fame after winning the Eurovision song contest in 1974, went on its last tour in 1982 in Stockholm. Among the group’s biggest hits included Dancing Queen, Waterloo and Mamma Mia. Their songs were later turned into a popular Broadway musical, Mamma Mia!, which later became a hit movie starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth.
