TURA:

The first session of the newly elected House in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) is set to be held tomorrow, April 19, after a notification by the commissioner and secretary, District Council Affairs (DCA), A Mawlong on April 17.

The latest development comes after the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, along with 11 National People’s Party MDCs, 3 Independents and the lone Garo National Council councillor, Nikman Marak met the Governor to stake claim to the formation of the new Executive Committee (EC) two days ago.

15 MDCs met the Governor to stake claim to lead the House.

As per the order of the Governor, Satya Pal Malik, the first session of the new House of the GHADC would begin at 11 am on Monday, April 19 at the District Council Hall in Tura.

The administering of oath or affirmation would take place during the day.

Further on April 21, the House would meet once again for the election to the Office of the Chairman at the same venue.

The order further directed the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills to preside over both the meetings and to administer the oath on behalf of the Governor.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has stated its will to speak to the Governor over the fact that 15 was not the number required for staking claim.

The magic number, as per the BJP, is 17, which meant that the NPP led coalition had fallen short and the Governor was misinformed on the matter.

The matter is expected to be taken up soon by the party.
