Meghalaya: GNC to support Dr Mukul in MP elections

TURA | March 22, 2019:

The candidature of Congress bigwig, Dr Mukul Sangma received a boost in Garo Hills with the decision of the Garo National Council (GNC) to extend its support to the Congress MP candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The decision to do so came after a meeting between members of the GNC and the Chokpot MLA for INC, Lazarus M Sangma held at the Ruga Doni Bajar under Chokpot constituency today in front of a large gathering.

Nikman Ch Marak, the chairman of Garo State Movement Committee (GSMC) stated that Late Purno A. Sangma raised the issue of a separate Garoland State only once in Parliament and remained silent after that.

"Last election we supported NPP but this time we will not support their candidate Agatha Sangma as her father late Purno A. Sangma has lied to us. We will not allow them to fool us again," said Nikman Marak.

He also informed about the need to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) stating that if the NPP won there would be danger to the people of the region as they are the coalition partner of BJP led NDA government in the centre.

The GSMC and by extension the GNC stated that they were extending their support to INC Candidate Dr. Mukul M. Sangma and urged the people of Garo Hills to vote for change in order to save the region from BJP.
