Meghalaya could hit 5k COVID-19 cases by mid-May, says CM Conrad Sangma

Meghalaya could hit five thousand COVID-19 cases by mid-May if the daily numbers continue to rise, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Monday.

While addressing reporters, Sangma said the State Government had imposed restrictions by temporarily closing down schools, colleges and non-essential shops.

“Seeing the trend, if we do not take restrictions now, then 15-20 days later, things may get out of control. The government will analyse in micro detail, and will decide (on) other restrictions,” Sangma said.

He also said the State Government would roll out ‘aggressive vaccination campaigns’ before the situation can spiral out of control and informed that the Union Government had announced that all states would have to buy vaccines from the companies.

“The state government has written to the companies. They have given us in writing that they will get back to us with the supply because the Government of India and companies are focusing on states that are facing more crisis,” he said.
