As the year 2017, grips up the tiny Himalayan state of Sikkim with the chilly winter, and snowfalls, and to warm up the souls, the event management firm the ‘Lazy Bee Events’ in association with Cafe Infinity gears up for the grand two days music festival ‘Orchid Music Gala’ (OMG) to celebrate and promote art, talent, and culture of Sikkim. The music festival is first of its kind event in Sikkim, where the 26 bands and artists from Sikkim along with the celebrated band from Nepal will perform for the consecutive two days with the intention to not just celebrate and live music but also to voice out on the mental health awareness. OMG will be taking place at Infinity Futsal Arena, Gangtok on 13th – 14th January with an amounted entry fee to raise the fund to campaign for the awareness on mental health and suicide in Sikkim.
As, Sikkim has been showing constant high and increasing suicide rates for the past few years and the statistics given by many agencies and National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) brings the state to an alarming phase. OMG is basically an event which shall concisely try to aware people to actually understand the issues of mental health of which many of the citizens of Sikkim are unaware of.
Speaking to TNT- The Northeast Today, Tshering Leizum Bhutia, Founder/Director, Lazy Bee Events said, ‘ one of the intentions behind the event is to create a space for artists and musicians of Sikkim and also to create a safe place for the artists to celebrate art. The event is an attempt to bring up the music fraternity together on a common platform to support one another. It shall be creating an environment for artist of Sikkim to share woes and joys in the form of music. She further added that the event will be first of its kind where artist together will be speaking and providing awareness on the various mental health issues through music with a tagline ‘music heals’. The fund raised during the event will be used to make a series of 10 video episodes on Mental Health Awareness.
The band ‘Albatross’ from Nepal will be performing for the first time in Sikkim on the stage of OMG along with the other artists of Sikkim. The first day of the event will be headlined by Funk Assassin, a well established DJ from Mumbai and artists and bands viz, Bosing, Devine, Dechen Phinasa, Her Illegal Practice, Enoch Samten, Evolutions, Jack Jr + Tensonam, The Lazy Fingers, Nancy Rai, Nitesh and Anisha, Peden Bhutia, Pencpchew, Rapden, Rinchen Sherpa, Rinchen Tsechutharpa, UNB. The second day will have the performances by Arogya, Block iii, Crystal & The Witches, Damage Era, Ill Bred, M.A.Y.A , Nightmares, Quantum Theory, Roll Heads, Tribals Don’t Kill, Tshering Leezum Collective, Yankee Rose.
