Sikkim: Move to preserve endangered Lepcha language initiated

GANGTOK: Sikkim Bhutia Lepcha Apex Committee along with their close Swiss associate  has been successful in developing the Unicode Standard Lepcha Fonts via software ‘Rong Kit Digital Lepcha’ which was officially launched on August 9 at the BL House, Gangtok by the SIBLAC conveners Tseten tashi Bhutia and Chewang Rinzing Lepcha on the occasion of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

Lepcha language has been on the UN list of the endangered languages of the world so the software has been developed to boost up the promotion and the preservation of the endangered Lepcha language.The software ‘Rong Kit Digital Lepcha’ owned by the SIBLAC enables one to use the Lepcha language in computer operating systems, browsers and software application.

It complies with the Unicode standard for use in Windows, Mac and Linux operating system. The software, instruction and background information are available for download at
