Dimapur Apr11:Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) Khekaho Assumi has informed that the Central government would be setting up a Taekwondo Academy in Dimapur in the near future.
According to an official report today, Khekaho, who was in Delhi recently to meet Central leaders and officials, inspected various sports facilities and ongoing projects in Dimapur and informed that the Taekwondo Academy in Dimapur and a project worth Rs 10 to 15 crore would be approved within one month of submission of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) by the state government.
Two more projects: a Badminton Academy and an Aqua Park in Dimapur, has been ‘agreed in principle’ by the Centre, he said.
Accompanied by DYRS Director, DSO of Dimapur, sports coaches and other officials, Khekaho started his itinerary from Dimapur District Sports Complex Stadium of Dimapur, which is still under construction.
Inspection of the stadium was, however, cut short due to absence of the contractor.
According to Department officials, the contractor of the State Stadium was absent despite prior information about the inspection or visit.
The Parliamentary Secretary also inspected the ongoing works of the Swimming Pool near IMC Dimapur.
He expressed dissatisfaction over the workmanship of the Swimming Pool taken up at the cost of Rs 2.49 crore for which an amount of Rs 2 Crore (approx) has been released and is taken up under PPP mode.
Deadline for completion of the said facility is May 2017.
An agreement was reached between the Department and the contractors for completion of the facility within three months upon the release of remaining amount.
The inspection team also visited the State Boys Hostel inside the DDSC Stadium, the report said.
