Meghalaya Truck accident update: PM Modi sanctions ex-gratia for victims

SHILLONG, (March 8): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned ex-gratia to those who had been killed and injured in a road accident in Meghalaya on February 26, Home Minister H D R Lyngdoh informed the Assembly today.

17 people were killed and 57 injured in a truck accident at Jadohkroh village in West Khasi Hills district on February 26. “We have been informed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that Rs two lakh each has been sanctioned to the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 each to the injured persons from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund,” Mr Lyngdoh said while replying to a Zero Notice brought by opposition Hill State People’s Democratic Party legislator, K.P. Pangniang.

Mr Lyngdoh also informed the assembly that the state government has decided to sanction an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50000 to the next of kin of those killed and Rs 10,000 each to the injured.

He also informed that the driver of the truck has been booked for negligence and rash driving and would be arrested after his release from the hospital.
