NONGSTOIN, May 19: Tackling the social problems like high rate of school drop-out and unemployment, the government has rolled out the Nai Manzil scheme, to provide the school dropouts with an integrated input of formal education and skill training along with certification, with a view of enabling them to seek better employment in the organized sector and equipping them with better lives.
This is World Bank supported scheme of Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. Sachdeva New PT College, New Delhi is the implementing agency. The agency has been allotted 1000 seats for Meghalaya.
Taking advantage of this scheme, the office of the Deputy Commissioner West Khasi Hills district which has been allotted 500 seats for our district has invited application from the eligible candidates for Nai Manzil scheme.
The eligibility criteria is as follows
1) The candidate should belong to minority religion i.e. Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis) and Jains.
2) The candidate should not have passed class 10th.
3) The candidate has to be within the age bracket of 17 to 35 years.
4) Minimum 30% of the seats are reserved for female candidates.
5) 5% of the seats are reserved for non minority candidates like Hindus, Seng Khasis.
The course is of 6 to 9 months duration. The candidates will be given regular classroom coaching in order for them to appear for class 10th examination under NIOS. In addition to that the candidates will be skilled in any of the trades of their choice. If number of applications is more than 500, then a short interview will be conducted to select the candidates. The candidates are eligible for stipend of Rs 14500 which will be paid in instalment basis depending on the attendance.
The tentative skills are as follows. The candidate may choose any one of them.
Plumbing, carpentry, mobile repairing, embroidery and knitting, computers IT (both software and hardware), tourism/hospitality, 2 and 4 wheeler mechanic.
In as far as West Khasi Hills is concerned, the district administration has selected 4 centres for this scheme and seats are allocated as follows.
Nongstoin- 150, Mairang- 150, Mawshynrut- 100 and Mawthadraishan- 100
The application form can be collected from nearest BDO’s office. For the convenience of the candidate, the application forms have been uploaded on the Facebook also. The filled up applications along with all the supporting documents should be submitted to any block office, SDO (Civil) Office Mairang or DC Office Nongstoin before 15th June 2017.
