Meghalaya: Mentally challenged minor girl raped in North Garo Hills

TURA: In yet another crime against women and children case in Meghalaya, a  mentally challenged 17 year old girl was allegedly raped by a 35 year old resident of Sonari under Goalpara in Assam.

The alleged accused (name withheld) was caught by residents of the village when he attempted to repeat his rape attempt this afternoon in Chengalma under Bajengdoba Police Station in North Garo Hills.

According to sources, the 35 year old accused, who worked as a buffalo tender in the village on a part time basis allegedly raped the girl last Friday, Oct 14 when she was alone near the fields. Buoyed by his first success as well as non report of his act, he tried to repeat his act once again this afternoon but was soon caught by villagers after the specially abled girl raised an alarm.


The villagers, after catching hold of the accused, handed the 35 year old to the village sordar after which the police was called and the accused promptly arrested.

The accused was then brought to the Bajengdoba Police Station after which a medical test was done and a case registered in the same PS of rape.
