TURA: Kidnapping spree have once again resumed after the abduction of a coal labourer from near the village of Era Aning in Nongalbibra.
Azanur Islam, of Bholarbita village in Chibinang in West Garo Hills has allegedly been kidnapped by a group of five unidentified armed men, though no report has been made to the police teams as yet regarding the incident.
The five unidentified men carrying weapons went to a coal mine at Era Aning at 9:30 last night and took Islam away at gunpoint while he was asleep outside the coal mine.
The latest kidnapping follows barely three weeks since the release of seven limestone quarry workers by the ASAK militant group with many coming down heavily on the menace.
Distressed family members after getting the news of the kidnapping issued a public appeal to the group behind the kidnap to release Islam safely.
While there is still no confirmation on who could be behind the kidnapping, ASAK led by its commander in chief, Reding T Sangma, is the prime suspect in the current case as well.
ASAK has in the past, kidnapped several people in South Garo Hills with most victims comprising of traders, drivers, coal miners and cloth dealers. In most cases the group released the victims after receiving extortion money.
