Meghalaya : 7 traders from Assam Kidnapped by insurgents in Garo Hills

The Situation in Garo hills continues to be a major worry for the state government. Just days after a blast in William Nagar, it has been reported that 7 traders who were abducted from Assam are still untraceable  even as the police have launched a massive operation in North Garo Hills along with the elite COBRA commandos in the areas

The traders have been identified as – Tustu Paul, Manoranjan Sarkar, Putul Mukherjee, Piyush Biswas, Pradip Das, Bijoy Sarkar and Ganesh Basu. All of them hail from Dorenggre in Goalpara district.

Police said that the traders were abducted yesterday around 4 pm, while they were returning form Dokhongsi weekly market, near Kharkutta.The market in close to Assam’s Goalpara district, about 60 km from Resubelpara, the district headquarter of North Garo Hills.

it is believed that 6 to 7 insurgents abducted the traders said Ramesh Singh, superintendent of police, North Garo Hills after their vehicle was stopped and they were identified .The other 5 traders in the car were not abducted and allowed to go .

With the situation worsening in Garo Hills it remains to  be seen if these traders will be rescued by the police or let go after ransom is payed to the insurgents.Kidnapping has become a major source of income for most insurgent groups in Garo Hills.
