SHILLONG, March 17 2017: Crime against children in the state of Meghalaya has hit a new low when a 16 year old boy was allegedly subjected to unnatural sexual abuse by his male teacher several times last year on different occasions in East Khasi Hills district.
According to the police, one Banphanbok Sawian (20s), a teacher of Lawmei Secondary School (EKH) in Mylliem and hailing from Ri Bhoi district, allegedly sodomized a sixteen year old boy several times at the school residential quarters and once at Polo ground, Shillong when the boys had attended a football match.
EKH Superintendent of Police (Crime) Vivek Syiem informed that though the boy was subjected to un-natural sexual abuse last year, the complaint was only registered on Wednesday (March 15).
The delay was attributed to the fear psychosis experienced by the boy as the accused was his own teacher. “For several months, the boy kept mum but later he finally mustered courage to inform the other teachers in school,” Syiem said.
When the matter came to fore, the same was reported to the School Managing Committee and a report was hence registered with the police. “The accused is absconding. Police are investigating into the matter to find out whether the boy is the only victim or are there more boys who suffered the same fate,” said the SP.
