Guinness World Record holding marathon runner from Assam gets call to Elite boxing trials

GUWAHATI: Abhijit Baruah, the Guinness world record marathon runner has been selected for trials for the upcoming Elite National Boxing Championship.

The call up has come after the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) advised the Jorhat District Amateur Boxing Association to send the prolific runner for trials.

Guwahati will host the first ever Pro-Boxing Championships starting December 8 which will see a host of top boxers from the country compete.

The trial for the event will be held in Guwahati on December 2.

25-year-old Baruah made a name for himself four years ago by setting a Guinness World Record by running 156.2km barefoot in 24 hours.

He is a self professed boxer and has cried biasness by the AABA when he was not called for earlier trials, the AABA have conceded to his request and will judge his performance at the trials to see if he will make it through to the event.
