TURA: Expressing happiness on the recent resolution passed by the entire Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for seeking a separate state, the Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) thanked all the MDCs involved in taking the historical decision.
The GHADC had moved for a separate state through a motion passed by the Council during the Winter Session last week, Friday Nov 29.
“We express our happiness for the historic resolution being passed by GHADC for separate Garoland State. We are extremely happy and thank our elected leaders, who beyond political party affiliation, and in one voice passed the longstanding issue unanimously,” said chairman of the GHSMC, Nikman Ch Marak.
The committee felt that the passing of the resolution was an indicator to the support for their movement for a separate state of Garoland while also stating that the resolution’s passing has given a huge boost to their movement.
“In the past many political parties has misled or misinformed the public regarding our movement for separate state questioning the political agenda during elections. However the unopposed resolution passed proved that the demand is genuine and legitimate,” he added.
The GHSMC was formed in 2012 to demand for a separate state through democratic means and has been organizing rallies, public meetings and democratic agitations to seek support for their movement throughout Garo Hills.
“Though this movement is political in nature, we lacked political support without which we would never succeed. However at last we gained the political support required” added Nikman.
To carry forward their demand the GHSMC has called a public meeting and public rally in Ramchengga, South Garo Hills on Dec 3.
