April 21, 2017: The I-League season is coming close to the end with Aizawl FC and Mohun Bagan on level points and hoping to our run the other for the title of ongoing I-League season. It has been a fairytale ride for the Northeast side who just last year was on the verge of relegation. How things have turned and they sit second on the table with just goal difference keeping them away from first.
Mohun Bagan have been very impressive this season especially in defence and on paper it looks like they should have the upper hand when they face Aizawl this Saturday, however, this Aizawl side is a scrappy one with a never say die attitude. The Northeast has never had a team win the title and be crowned Champions and looking at how Aizawl are doing, it is just about to grasp the top. Fans across the region and especially Mizoram will be crossing their fingers and hope Aizawl keep their nerves together and stay on course to the title.
Aizawl have had a brilliant record at home and will hope to continue this streak. The atmosphere is Aizawl is intimidating for any away side and fans will throng the stadium in hopes of supporting their team on route to the title. There is added pressure for the Northeast side who has had some rough moments in the season but who have also always managed to bounce back. Mohun Bagan have been solid both in attack and have been sensational in defence conceding the least number of goals but their last match against Shillong Lajong saw them slip as they drew 1-1 to the Northeast side. The Bengal side has not had the best away record with just 5 goals from away games but they will hope to revive the side just like they did against East Bengal so ensure that they remain favourites in the title race.
The match will kick off at 2:05 pm on Saturday.
