Five facts about Solomon’s Temple, the largest church in Mizoram

Tucked away in the clouded hills of Chawlhmun area in West Aizawl stands the Solomon’s Temple. It is considered the largest church in Mizoram state and even though construction is not quite complete, has already become a tourist attraction in Mizoram with visitors from all over the world.

Here are five facts that you should know about this architectural wonder:

#1. The foundation of the temple was laid on December 23, 1996. It took almost two decades to complete the construction of the temple, which was built at an estimated cost of US$ 3 million raised through donations.

#2. The temple is made purely of white marble.

#3. It is run by Kohhran Thianghlim (The Holy Church), a non-denominational Christian section in Mizoram, founded by Dr Lalbiakmawia Sailo in 1984.

#4. The walls of the Temple exactly face South, North, East, and West.

#5. Within its compound, the temple complex has a natural park covered with various forest trees that provide shade and fruits for birds and animals such as squirrels.
