Election Commission prohibits victory procession on May 2 

Given the nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases, the Commission stated that no victory procession after counting on May 2, 2021, shall be permissible.

NEW DELHI:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued an order prohibiting all victory processions on or after counting to legislative assemblies of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerela and Puducherry along with by-elections in various states on May 2, 2021.

Given the nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases, the Commission stated that no victory procession after counting on May 2, 2021, shall be permissible. 

"Not more than two persons shall be allowed to accompany the winning candidate or his/her authorised representative to receive the certificate of election from the returning officer concerned," the Commission added.
