Assam: ULFA Deputy C-n-C and 10 cadres surrender

GUWAHATI: A major setback for ULFA (I) commander in chief Paresh Baruah following reports which surfaced about deputy commander-in-chief Colonel Drishti Rajkhowa alias Drishti Asom alias Manoj Rabha is set to come over ground. Colonel Drishti Rajkhowa, right hand of Ulfa supremo Paresh Baruah, is likely to be joined by over 10 more trained cadres of the outfit.

Drishti Rajkhowa alias Manoj Rabha was the Commander of the 109 battalion of ULFA until 2011, the banned outlawed group of Assam. He is said to be one of the close confidantes of the group’s C-in-C Paresh Baruah and an RPG expert.

On the condition of anonymity, the source said, the other cadres apart from Ulfa deputy C-N-C Drishti Rajkhowa include Corporal Vivek Asom, Sergeant Major Jantu Asom, Lahor Asom, Rupam Dutta alias Rupam Asom. The cadres are in touch with both police and the army and few of them may be arrested due to technical reasons.

In the past, police sources from Meghalaya said that the evidence indicate that there have been talks between GNLA supremo Sohan D. Shira and Deputy Commander in Chief of ULFA Drishti Rajkhowa alias Manoj Rabha.

Ideological conflicts has been looked as the cause but it is also claimed that Colonel Drishti Rajkhowa, one of the most trusted and senior leader of the militant outfit has been acting in the role of Deputy C-N-C of the outfit, only in namesake as he has been ignored in key decisions in past few months.
