Assam: Two Jorhat girls avert molestation by confronting five Goons!

JORHAT, May 17 : Jorhat police arrested two youths on the charges of wrongful restraint, using criminal force with the intention of disrobing and outraging the modesty of two girls along a public road of the city on Monday evening while the two sisters were returning by a rickshaw from Gar Ali market to their residence at Macharhat locality.

However, the two brave sisters could avert the imminent molestation bid by confronting five goons who tried to molest them on the public road between Rajamaidam and Dhakaipatti area of the city.

Narrating the incident, the complainants stated before the police that the gang of goons dragged one of them to the dark side of the road after they restrained the movement of the rickshaw.

“They did not have shirts and applied criminal force to disrobe us. They dragged us from the rickshaw to a dark area beside the road. As a few other people of that location told the gang members not to do such a thing with us, the gang left us and tried to flee,” the complainant said before reporters.

They also expressed disappointment over the delay in police action as the officer-in-charge of Jorhat police station allegedly refrained from initiating a prompt action to nab the accused for several hours even after the girls lodged a written complaint.

One accused was later nabbed by some locals of Dhakaipatti area of the city at night while another was arrested from Borpool locality of Jorhat.

Registering a case (no. 1017/17) at Jorhat sadar police station under Section 341,354,354 (A), 366,511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the investigators said that though they could nab Kalachand Ali of Nogaon and Washim Ali of Borpool locality of Jorhat, they are yet to nab three other accused involved in the crime.
