GUWAHATI: A 50-bedded ESIC hospital in Guwahati will be upgraded to a super-specialty hospital, while several ESIC dispensaries will be upgraded to 6-bedded hospitals.
Announcing this at a press conference Union MoS (independent charge) for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said, “As per request of the Assam Chief Minister, we have decided to upgrade the 50-bedded ESIC hospital to a 150-bedded one as a super-specialty one.”
He said there are 28 ESIC dispensaries in North East at present and out of these, 10 will be upgraded to six-bedded hospitals.
The Union MoS further said the demand for including plantation workers under ESIC will be examined by the government.
He said the Centre had targeted to increase the number of ESIC beneficiaries from existing 2.1 crore to 3.5 crore in next two years and increase the number of districts from 393 to 687 nationwide.
