GUWAHATI: Manipur the state with the perfect example of what the Inner Line Permit(ILP) is. Strikes to bandh it has witnessed every horrific moment. The northeastern region has always been a vexed area in terms of geography and their porous borders.

The segregation of the Union towards the region’s culture and people have made offshoot organisations to be threatened and in an act of defending its existence agitational programs are drawn in to attract the attention of the Central government.

Inner Line Permit (ILP) is an official travel document issued by the Government of India to allow inward travel of an Indian citizen into a protected area for a limited period.

This time a group of organisations led by Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP), staged a dharna in the national capital demanding its introduction in Assam.

In the past two years, Manipur has witnessed a series of violent protests by groups and organisations over the demand to introduce ILP in the State. Similar protests were seen in Meghalaya too.

While speaking to a reputed newspaper AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar said, “Time calls for the immediate introduction of ILP which can rescue Assam from the danger of the (illegal Bangladeshi) immigrants.”
