Assam CM Sonowal takes stock of the situation arising out of rain and hailstorm

GUWAHATI, April 3: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewed loss of lives and property in the recent spate of rain and hailstorm and directed the Principal Secretary, Revenue Department, Pramod Kumar Tiwari to release ex-gratia payment to the next of the kin of the victims immediately.

While reviewing the situation with the Principal Secretary and other officers of the Revenue and Disaster Management, the Chief Minister also instructed immediate release of all essential items to those who were rendered homeless by rain and hailstorm. He also directed to immediately release tarpaulin and other essential items to the affected people.

The Chief Minister also took stock of the fund position and said fund should not be constraint to reach out to the affected people. Since 1995, highest amount of Rs 519.55 crore was sanctioned under SDRF this year and the highest amount of Rs. 496.43 crore was also released so far.

Sonowal also asked Principal Secretary to direct all deputy commissioners to maintain optimum level of observation on the development. At least four persons have been killed in rains and storm so far, while hundreds of houses and other property damaged.
