GUWAHATI: The Indira Gandhi stadium in Guwahati will host the Federation Cup finals today at 7 pm. The clear underdogs of the match, Aizawl FC will hope to go all the way and gain their first trophy as they go head to head with power house football giants Mohun Bagan.
Aizawl FC previously defeated Mohun Bagan with a 2-1 score line in the I League during their home game, so it is not an impossible feat as many would expect. Aizawl FC would hope that in form Nigerian striker, Joel Sunday will be available for the match as he has already had two bookings. The club has not received any confirmation of the suspension from the AIFF, so they hope that he will be a part of the squad.
In the previous meeting when Aizawl FC defeated Mohun Bagan, they sought inspiration from English Premier League champions, Leicester City who were the underdogs throughout the season. They will hope to draw on some more of the same inspiration to upset Mohun Bagan who are in great form. Mohun Bagan will hope to clinch the Cup as they came very close to becoming I League champions this season but had to settle for second best.
