Nagaland: 17th edition of Hornbill Festival starts in Kisama

KISAMA: 17th edition of The Hornbill Festival starts in Nagaland coinciding with the 53rd Statehood Day – at the Naga Heritage village, Kisama.The Hornbill Festival is held from Dec 1 till Dec 10 every year displaying Nagaland’s rich culture and traditions alongside a host of events.

Nagaland Chief Minister, TR Zeliang delivered the welcome address.While governor PB Acharya, lauded the Nagaland government for organizing the 10-day long annual tourism promotional event every year.Chief host of this year’s Sarbananda Sonowal was present as the guest of honour along with two of his cabinet ministers, MLAs and cultural troupe from neighbouring state of Assam.Sonowal added, that through the Hornbill Festival Nagaland has opened its doors to the world providing the tourists with an opportunity to experience ethnicity and rich cultural heritage of Nagaland.

The festival venues are being spread out at various locations outside Kohima starting this year, including Dimapur, Mokokchung and Phek districts.Hornbill Festival is held at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama which is about 12 km from Kohima.The Hornbill Festival provides a colourful mixture of dances, performances, crafts, parades, games, sports, food fairs and religious ceremonies.
